5 Points of Happy

“Happiness is one of the most attractive things in the world.” -Gabriel Iglesias

The post I have been fleshing out for the past several days just refuses to smoothly go from point A to end point B. The new post I tried to start is floundering. I hold myself accountable to always post on Thursdays. It is noon on Wednesday. By the time my son, Drew, and I left for an afternoon obligation, I still had a completely blank screen for tomorrow’s post. To say I was stressing would be an understatement.

When Drew and I are in the car, we listen to his…whatever. Ever watch Supernatural? “Driver picks the music; passenger shuts his cakehole.” Drew turned on the audio from the Netflix special, Gabriel Iglesias: Stadium Fluffy. Drew and I fulfilled our obligation. We returned home. I returned to prowling the house. Prowling, pacing, and wandering the house is my last ditch attempt at working through writing problems.

The thing is, however, I noticed as I started my walking of the house, it wasn’t a panic-y walk. I was just kind of meandering…as were my thoughts. I kept returning to what Gabriel Iglesias said in his show. At one point, he talks about how people want to be around and are drawn to happy people. Happiness is contagious. People want that positivity.

And even though I didn’t have a post ready to go out on Thursday morning, I was happy. While Drew and I were out, I had been bopped on the head with the happy wand so many times. After I returned home, and started thinking about it, I also started counting those happy smacks.

1. Alexa

Today’s obligation was to fix a friend’s Alexa. I have no technological expertise, which is why I had enlisted Drew to help. He took one look at the little dot. He turned it right-side up. He turned off the mute button.

“Alexa, what time is it?”

“The time is 2:36 p.m.” came the A.I. reply.

Fastest fix EVER!

2. Eating Out Unexpectedly

“Wanna go celebrate?” my friend asked.

I have a 19-year old son. Of course he wants to eat!

“Let’s go!” was all I had to say.

3. Starbucks

After the restaurant, it was just Drew and I again. We listened and laughed to Gabriel Iglesias. Without asking, he drove me into the Starbucks lane. I ordered. For me, Starbucks has become such a luxury item these days. Drew paid.

4. No Fighting

The son and I made it through an entire car day together without one fight or disagreement or gassing each other out of the car. (Unfortunately, that happens. I would like to be able to put all of the blame on him…but I can’t. )

5. A Quick Trip

Since learning isolation during Covid I haven’t quite gotten back to being comfortable away from the safety of my house for long periods of time. Today’s outing was short and sweet yet also purposeful and productive. Chloe the hound dog was waiting at the back door, tail wagging and tongue out when we pulled in.

At the End of the Day

It isn’t the post I had planned, fought, or forced. Maybe that post will be ready for next week.

But I am very happy with this post. I am glad you are seeing this one.

Maybe it will help you have a good day also.
