Secretly Kinda Excited

Don’t worry, I won’t say it out loud.

It’s the end of March and we are getting snow.

I’m kinda excited by this.

As a Northern Midwesterner, my soul rallies in the cold

Even if I complain about the cold.

Truthfully, I am only complaining to make you feel better.

Because you have to drive to work.

The kids have to go out to school.

The mail still has to be delivered in this wintery landscape.

Outwardly, I will sympathize with all of you brave souls who have to endure the icy roads, slushy windshields, and frigid air.

Inwardly, however, I am singing in joy and holding onto this last bit of winter as long as I can into the Spring sunshine.

I won’t say anything about my glee in finding a path of ice to slide across.

Or my joy in making a small snowball to lob at you.

Or how I find a lungful of ice cold air invigorating.

I stay home reveling in the snow gifted to us as Spring clambers to find a foothold and push Winter away.

If I venture outside and risk a spill, fall, or getting lost that is my choice.

Your life demands you venture out.

That is the difference between your outlook and mine, isn’t it?

P.S. I heard more snow is on the way this afternoon.

Drive carefully, but before you go, have you seen my mittens?

Why do I need them?

No reason.
